Mission Statement

The Office of the General Counsel’s mission is to ensure that the Detroit Public Schools Community District is at all time accorded professional legal guidance and representation in furtherance of educational services to our school community and excellence in academics. The staff of the Office of the General Counsel stands committed to provide all manners of legal guidance, counsel and representation in the delivery of legal services to the District as a whole to minimize financial exposure, legal liability and the violation of individual rights. The Office of the General Counsel seeks to protect and defend the rights of District staff, students and the school community as it relates to the provision of educational services and employment consistent with District policies, procedures and local, state and federal law.
