Free physical exams available for DPS student-athletes April 5-9

The Detroit Public Schools is teaming up with the Detroit Wayne County Health Authority and Think Detroit PAL to provide free physical examinations for Public School League student-athletes just in time for the spring sports schedule.
Starting Monday, April 5 and concluding Friday, April 9, a thorough physical exam for children 18-and-under (with or without health insurance) will be available at no charge and offered at five Detroit locations:
Northwestern High School, 220 W. Grand Blvd., Room A-300. Phone: (313) 596-0700
Detroit Health Connection, 13901 E. Jefferson (313) 822-0900
Detroit Health Connection, 111 W. Seven Mile (313) 822-0900
McAuley Health Center, 5555 Conner Ave. (313) 579-1182
Your Health First-Both locations, Dr. Densley, 15266 Grand River Ave. (313) 836-2400
“For those student-athletes whose physicals have expired, there’s a deadline of April 15 to take a physical that will last a whole year,” said Alvin Ward, DPS Athletic Administrator. “With spring sports about to start, this is a good opportunity for our kids. If they don’t take this physical, they won’t be covered for the whole year.”
Termed a “Well Child” physical, the exam’s thoroughness is a big benefit, Ward said. “It’s a true physical and not just the brief, come, cough and go variety,” he said.
Walk-in exams are available, but times and dates vary by location, so appointments are recommended.
