PSL’s top basketball talents sign up early for college

Several of the Detroit Public School League top boys’ and girls’ basketball recruits revealed their college plans Wednesday, the first day of the national collegiate early-signing period.
At a ceremony held at Southeastern High, 6-6 senior forward Brandan Kearney announced his choice of Michigan State University, while teammate Percy Gibson, a 6-9 forward center, selected the University of Dayton.

At a news conference held in the Detroit Public Schools’ Welcome Center, several players from King High’s and Renaissance High’s girls’ teams made their decisions known in front of family, friends, coaches and other supporters.

They included: King’s Bria’unna Buckner (Jacksonville State University in Alabama); Jackie Jones (Chicago State University); Chanise Baldwin (Providence) and Briana Graham (Iona College in New York); and Renaissance’s Asia Boyd (Kansas), Arrice Bryant (Yale) and Alexis Harris (Providence).

Renaissance High’s Michael Hundley, a 6-11 center, chose The Citadel in South Carolina, and Cass Tech’s Marlin Mason, a 6-6 forward, is headed to Cleveland State University.
