It’s official! For the first time since 2006, the Detroit Public School League football championship games will be held at Ford Field, home of the NFL’s Lions, in downtown Detroit.
The Division 1 and 2 championship doubleheader is slated for Friday, October 21. Admission is $10 to see both games, with the Division 2 title game set for 4:30 p.m. followed by the Division 1 title game at 7 p.m.
“They (Ford Field officials) told us they’re glad we’re back, and we’re ecstatic to be back,’’ said Alvin Ward, Executive Director of Athletics for Detroit Public Schools.
“The Detroit Public School League has always been one of the country’s premier high school leagues because of all the great athletes who comprise our teams and go on to even greater success year after year.
“Fortunately, we’re able to crown our football champions this year at one of the premier venues in the country. We know our players, coaches and fans will be pleased to be inside Ford Field on October 21 for what we expect will be two exciting championship games.”
