Crockett, Douglass lead field of eight PSL teams into MHSAA football state playoffs

Newly-crowned Detroit Public School League football champions Crockett High and Douglass High will lead a field of eight PSL teams into the Michigan High School Athletic Association playoffs this weekend.

Crockett, which defeated King 21-19 to win the PSL Division I title Friday night at Ford Field, will host Detroit Country Day at Osborn High School at 7 p.m. Friday.

Douglass, riding high after shutting out Henry Ford 28-0 to win the PSL Division II crown in the first game Friday night at Ford Field, will open the state playoffs Friday at 7 p.m. against PSL opponent Southwestern at Northwestern High School.

A total of 256 teams — composed of eight 32-team divisions based on enrollment — qualified for the state football playoffs.

In addition to Crockett, Southwestern and Douglass in Division 4, Kettering is also in a Division 4 opener Friday at 7 p.m. at Grosse Ile.

Other PSL playoff qualifiers include Cass Tech (Division 1) at Livonia Churchill at 7 p.m. Friday; King (Division 2) at Grosse Pointe South at 7 p.m. Friday; Ford (Division 2) hosting Farmington at 1 p.m. Saturday; and Pershing (Division 3) at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s at  1 p.m. Saturday.
