Detroit Public Schools will hold auditions today and Wednesday for its newly-reorganized All City High School Marching Band (ACHSMB) with the goals of providing a performance outlet for all DPS high school band musicians and performing in local, state, national and international music events.
Auditions for the All City Band will be held at Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 19, 2013 for the following instrumentation:
June 18, 2013 Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Auxiliaries
June 19, 2013 Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Auxiliaries
The band will be composed of 200 of the best musicians that meet the criteria for instrumentation and audition successfully. Each applicant must be enrolled in the band program at his/her current DPS school high and must secure the written approval of the school band director and a parent or guardian.
Musicians that attend schools that do not have band programs must secure the written permission of the principal, administrative staff and/or counselor and a parent or guardian. Parent or guardian must be able to verify that they are a minimum of 21 years of age in order for their signature to be considered legal. Successful eighth grade applicants must join the band program in their DPS/designated high school. All applicants must establish and maintain a minimal 2.5 grade point average in order to remain an active participant in the All City High School Marching Band. The G.P.A. of each successful applicant will be reviewed after each marking period to ensure compliance with this policy.
Rehearsals are mandatory and will be scheduled four days per week (Monday-Thursday) beginning Monday, June 17th – Wednesday, July 31st 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Fall rehearsals will be held on each Saturday of the month, beginning September 7th – December 7th 2013 from 9:00 – 12:00 p.m. The December rehearsal schedule may be expanded to prepare for special performances.
