Ford will visit Douglass at 4 p.m. today in a game that will complete the eight-team field for next week’s Detroit Public School League football semifinals.
The top two teams in each of four divisions make the playoffs, and seven teams have already qualified.
The PSL Division 1 semifinals are slated for Friday, Oct. 16 at DCP-Northwestern High School, featuring Cass Tech (the East second-place team) against Mumford (the West first-place team) at 5 p.m., followed by Cody (the West second-place team) against No. 1-ranked King (the East first-place team) at 7 p.m.
The PSL Division 2 semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17 at DCP-Northwestern High School, pitting Central (the East first-place team) against the Ford-Douglass winner (the West second-place team) at 12 noon, followed by Pershing (the East second-place team) against DCP-Northwestern (the West first-place team) at 2 p.m.
Ford entered Friday’s game with its 4-1 league record leading Douglass’ 3-2 league mark. A victory would keep the Trojans in playoff position, however the Hurricanes are hoping to forge a second-place tie and earn the playoff spot by virtue of a head-to-head victory.
The semifinal winners advance to the PSL championship doubleheader Friday, Oct. 23 at Ford Field. The Division 2 title game is at 4 p.m. followed by the Division 1 league championship game at 7 p.m.
