Detroit Public Schools Community District Names Jacqueline Robinson as New Executive Director of Communications

Robinson will lead the District’s communications in transitioning the District to local control

DETROIT (October 3, 2016) — Detroit Public Schools Community District’s Transition Manager Steven Rhodes named Jacqueline Robinson as the new Executive Director of Communications. Robinson, most recently served as the Public Relations and Marketing Director for Southfield Public Schools.

As the new Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) Executive Director of Communications, Robinson will lead the implementation and execution of a strategic communications plan to support the new District’s mission to provide excellence in education as it transitions to local control. Robinson will join the leadership team to ensure transparent, effective communications with all DPSCD stakeholders.

“This is both an exciting and challenging time for the new district and it is critical that our communication is consistent and strategically aligns with the new direction,” said Judge Rhodes. “Robinson’s experience includes spearheading communications and branding efforts during a district-wide transition. Her strong background in education and community work makes her a valuable addition to the DPSCD team.”

While at Southfield Public Schools, Jacqueline led the District’s communications strategy, media outreach and crisis management efforts. Robinson was a key component in the implementation of a major initiative that reconfigured the District to improve academic quality and financial sustainability. This included branding for a new high school following the merger of Southfield’s two largest comprehensive high schools.

Prior to joining Southfield Public Schools, Robinson served as Account Supervisor/Director of Operations for local public relations firm Berg Muirhead and Associates, now VanDyke Horn. She worked with numerous organizations including Detroit Public Schools, Henry Ford Hospital, Skillman Foundation and the Detroit Department of Transportation.

Robinson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations from Wayne State University and is an accredited public relations professional with the distinguished APR (Accreditation in Public Relations) credentials.

About the Detroit Public Schools Community District
The Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) is the new public school district for the Detroit community. It was created through the Michigan Legislature’s passage of the education reform bills in June 2016. DPSCD has replaced the former Detroit Public Schools. It will maintain all 97 schools, as well as all necessary support services including transportation, school nutrition, special education, early childhood learning and much more. In addition, DPSCD will emerge with new and innovative academic programs and support, along with facility improvements and enhanced security.
