Cody teacher named Fred Martin Detroit Educator of the Year

In May, Cody Medicine and Community Health Academy social studies teacher Michelle A. Shorter, was named the 2018 Fred Martin Educator of the Year at the Coleman A. Young Foundation (CAYF) Annual Awards Experience.

Future Cody MCH medical professionals study abroad in Costa Rica

For the DSPCD 2017 Spring Break, April 18 – 25, students at Medicine and Community Health (MCH) at Cody are embarking on a seven day study abroad trip in Lake Arenal, Costa Rica where Detroit youth are learning, experiencing and exploring how communities address health and medicine in various cultural environments. Students will then return to Detroit and provide conclusions on how our Detroit neighborhoods can improve the quality of life. Cody Campus Celebrates National EMS Week!

Medicine and Community Health (MCH) at Cody, in partnership with Detroit Mayor Duggan’s office, local EMS and firefighters, and the American Heart Association is hosting a school and community event during National EMS Week to celebrate first responders. Participants will learn hands-only CPR from MCH students and the AHA, meet EMS teams and learn tips to keep themselves and their families safe, participate in healthy cooking demos, and have a chance to have their home water quality tested by MCH students, among other fun and educational events.  The event will be open to Detroit Public Schools’ students only from 9-11 a.m. and to the entire community from 4-6 p.m. MCH will pay for buses for groups of DPS eighth graders that would like to

Cody MCH’s American Heart Association Metro Detroit Heart Walk Challenge

Medicine and Community Health (MCH) Academy at Cody would like to challenge all Detroit Public Schools to walk in the American Heart Association’s Metro Detroit Heart Walk, on Saturday, May 14 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wear your school colors to show your school pride! 5th Annual NSBE Student Chapter Alternative Spring Break, March 7-9

The Michigan Technological University NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) in collaboration with Detroit Public Schools, will visit nine DPS locations to host the 5th Annual Alternative Spring Break, offering free family engineering nights at K-8 schools and engineering presentations at high schools. The Alternative Spring Break will take place March 7-9 from 4-6 p.m. at participating locations. DPSL celebrates more than 40 scholarship recipients on National Letter of Intent Signing Day

Student athletes signed scholarship commitment letters to colleges and universities throughout the country More than 40 Detroit Public School League student athletes announced which colleges they plan to attend, on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 during a National Letter of Intent Signing Day ceremony held at the Horatio Williams Foundation. The Detroit Public School League hosted its 7th Annual Signing Day event where Boys Varsity Football and Girls Varsity Basketball student athletes signed their commitment letters for scholarships to colleges and universities throughout the country. Families, coaches and school supporters filled the room while the student athletes announced their college destinations. New High School Open House Series tailored for 8th grade students

Detroit Public Schools launched this month a NEW initiative to ensure Detroit 8th grade students can explore the District’s High Schools before the spring Enrollment period to allow parents/guardians and their children to make the best decision possible for their High School of choice. All Detroit 8th grade students graduating in June 2016 are welcome to attend these fun and engaging events.
